What is Google?

Google is a search engine that, with a market share of over 90%, is the world's largest search engine. The search engine processes over 40,000 search queries per second worldwide, which amounts to approximately 3,500,000,000 searches per day.

Among search engines, Google is widely recognised as the best at serving the most relevant search results to users, which likely also explains its high market share.

Over the years, Google has received considerable criticism for its handling of personal data, which it sells to advertisers, as well as for increasingly promoting its own ads within search results.

How old is Google?

Google was founded and launched in 1998 under the name "BackRub", and later changed its name to the one we all know today.

The name "Google" derives from the word "Googol", which is the number 1 followed by 100 zeros. The name was chosen to reflect the enormous amount of information it indexes.

Who owns Google?

Google is a subsidiary of the American holding company "Alphabet Inc", which was founded in 2015 as a holding company for the many Google products and other businesses, typically within the tech industry.
