What is e-commerce?

E-commerce is defined as all trade that takes place electronically — typically via the internet. The 'e' stands for electronic, and commerce refers to the trading of goods. In other words: electronic trading of goods.

E-commerce therefore covers everything from buying clothes online to ordering a service and email. Likewise, e-commerce can be B2C, B2B, and B2G.

When did e-commerce begin?

E-commerce in Denmark truly took off in the second half of the 1990s. Globally, it is reported that the first transaction worldwide took place in 1972.
