Performance Marketing is marketing where you only pay for performance/results. It is therefore a form of marketing in which the advertiser only pays for real results. No results, no payment.
Performance marketing is particularly a concept that has emerged in connection with online marketing, where it is possible to measure user actions and thus have data on whether or not your marketing efforts are delivering results.
What "performance" means depends on your business. It could be leads, clicks or actual customers.

Performance Marketing pricing models

There are various pricing models within Performance Marketing where you only pay for results. The most common ones are listed below:

  • CPM / Cost-per-mille: Here you only pay for the number of impressions you receive.
  • CPC / Cost-per-click: Here you only pay for the clicks you receive.
  • CPL / Cost-per-lead: Here you only pay for the leads you receive.
  • CPA / Cost-per-action/acquisition: Here you only pay for specific actions or the acquisition of a new customer.

Which pricing model is the right one depends on the objective of the individual campaign and/or ad. If the goal is increased brand awareness, the pricing model should be CPM; if the goal is new leads, the pricing model should be CPA, and so on.
