What is Yahoo?
Yahoo is an American web portal, primarily known for its search engine, which is the third largest search engine in the world with a market share of 1.64%.
In addition to their search engine, Yahoo also offers services in news, shopping and mail. Yahoo was started in 1994 as a bookmark list by two Stanford students named David Filo and Jerry Yang, but quickly grew into something much larger — one of the first real search engines in the world.
According to Yahoo's own website, their name stands for "Yet Another Hierarchical Officious Oracle".
Who owns Yahoo?
Yahoo was sold in 2016 to the media conglomerate "Verizon Media", which also owns "AOL", "TechCrunch" and "HuffPost", in a deal valued at approximately 5 billion dollars.
