A brief overview of Search Generative Experience
Search Labs is Google's initiative that gives users of the platform the opportunity to test new products and ideas that Google is currently exploring. In other words, it is Google's “Beta access” for users on the search engine, where you can try out their various experiments and also provide feedback on the initiatives.
Search Generative Experience (SGE) aims to redefine Google searches, making them more straightforward, transparent and engaging through the use of AI.
By implementing SGE in Google's Search Labs, they strive to renew the search experience, contributing to a more intuitive and user-friendly approach to organic search. The initiative follows in the wake of AI tools such as ChatGPT and reflects an attempt to improve and differentiate their search service by integrating advanced AI technologies comparable to OpenAI.
In connection with Google's continuous testing and evaluation of the SGE feature, further adjustments are expected, which will bring new and exciting updates in the area, including the latest initiative covering image generation.
Create images with AI Search Experience
With the tools for creating AI-generated images in Search Generative Experience, Google now makes it possible to find inspiration in new ways, comparable to features such as ChatGPT DALL-E and Midjourney.
You may have experienced situations where you search for a specific image but cannot find exactly what you have in mind. Or perhaps you have an idea that you need help visualising?
It is now possible to get help via AI-generated images. And as part of the experiment, Google has also developed a feature that allows you to create AI-generated images directly in Google Images when searching for inspiration.
Improved shopping and purchasing experience
With the integration of generative AI in the search process, SGE helps provide a complete picture when you shop online. By giving you more information and context for your searches, Google creates the best conditions for well-considered purchases, making even the most complex buying decisions easier.
With the ability to ask follow-up questions, you can dive deeper into the topic you are exploring. The context will be adjusted in accordance with the different questions, creating a cohesive and targeted search experience.
Below is the result of a search for “Best smart thermostat", providing an example of what a search using SGE can look like:

The example above gives you a snapshot of the factors you should consider when purchasing a thermostat, along with product descriptions that include relevant, up-to-date reviews, prices and product images.
Who is most affected by the new changes?
The upcoming changes appear to primarily affect informational sites, including websites that rely on informational searches, as well as affiliate sites. Since Google with the new initiatives answers users' questions directly on the page, users avoid having to click through to websites, as Google provides the answers immediately. In the same way, affiliate sites will become less visible, apart from the three affiliate sites highlighted at the top of the search results (see the example above), which are often affiliate articles. Ecommerce is currently less affected by these changes.
How should you approach the new initiatives?
Based on careful testing and ongoing evaluation, there is no doubt that the rollout of Google's AI-generated Search Experience opens doors to new and innovative ways of engaging users.
However, it is still unclear when Google will roll out the Google Search Experience, and whether it will look the way it does now. That said, it remains highly relevant and necessary to take it into account in order to be as well prepared as possible when it happens. It is therefore also essential to keep up with Google's ongoing evaluations and updates in the area.
All in all, these initiatives are seen as an exciting opportunity to improve your presence on the search engine by leveraging the innovative possibilities that Google's AI-driven search experience will likely soon offer.
So there is nothing left to do but wait for the beta version to become available in Denmark, making it possible to explore the exciting opportunities!
