LSI Keywords (Latent Semantic Indexing)

What are LSI (Latent Semantic Indexing) keywords?

LSI stands for Latent Semantic Indexing — it refers to the way humans and machines (e.g. Google and other search engine algorithms) use the context and relationships between words and texts to gain a better understanding of individual words, texts, or a website as a whole.

TIP!
LSI keywords are also known as: LSI search terms, LSI key phrases, LSI focus words and LSI terms.

For example, words such as: Online, Marketing, SoMe, SEO give Google an understanding that searchmind.dk is about online marketing. Likewise, using related, relevant words on a single landing page helps Google (as well as the reader) better grasp the content of that page.

How you should use LSI keywords (Latent Semantic Indexing)

As search engines continue to evolve and improve, it is increasingly important to write content that is not only aimed at search engines, but also at users.
You can no longer simply repeat a chosen keyword a set number of times and expect to rank.

Search engines can tell when the rest of the text is not relevant — partly due to their understanding of LSI keywords.
You should therefore write your content so that it is relevant and includes related words within the topic you are writing about. In other words: write value-creating, relevant content — for the reader just as much as for the search engines.
