What is traditional marketing?
Traditional marketing is a term within marketing that covers the traditional form of marketing. In other words, how businesses marketed themselves before online marketing came along.
Examples of traditional marketing:
- Flyers
- Signs
- Brochures
- Newspaper advertisements
- TV commercials
- Bus advertisements
- Taxi advertisements
and more.
How you can use traditional marketing today
With the rise of the internet, online marketing has taken the top spot as the preferred marketing method across markets and industries, but traditional marketing is not dead — we still find that several traditional marketing methods can have a significant impact on brand awareness, branding, and customer acquisition.
Traditional marketing today can rarely stand alone, however. The digital element is part of the vast majority of all customer journeys — in other words, you almost never see a purchase today where the customer does not have at least one online touchpoint.
So even if it is your flyer or TV commercial that creates the initial awareness, the potential customer will likely search online for your product, look for alternatives, or forget about you and scroll on through Facebook or similar. So you need to be there too!
That is why we find that traditional marketing today works best in interplay with and as a supplement to digital marketing — but not on its own. Together, the two forms of marketing can create a synergy effect where 1+1 is more than 2, and you can get extra value from your traditional marketing.
